Saturday I spent the day shooting youth football. I’ll be out there every weekend this season, capturing moments and emotions that are unique to this sport. These photos may not be my best from the day, but they work out for this post – my homage to youth football.
It’s a sport where the goal posts don’t matter because no one can kick a field goal.
Where the quarters are short, but so are the players.
Where’s it’s okay to cry if you get hurt…
…especially when the coach carries you off the field.
Where a failed tackle attempt can be just as fun as scoring a touch down.
Where everyone cheers for everyone.
Where keeping your cleats clean on the sideline is more important than staying hydrated.
Where catching the snap is the hardest part of the game.
Where sideline strategy consists of “raise your hand if you haven’t played yet.”
Where your face of intimidation is just as much a part of practice as running, throwing, catching and tackling.
Where the cheerleaders are just as cute, but have doubts about the team, the heat, the uniform and post-game snack.
Where the fans scream “take my picture.”
And where scoring a touchdown comes with more excitement than winning a Super Bowl.
