Occasionally I shoot a restaurant profile for Community Impact News. I was at Bordeaux’s in Kyle for just that purpose this summer.
These restaurant profile shoots are very quick, in and out in about 15 min., including shooting dishes. I came in just before they opened for dinner and got two shots of the owners, Kasey & Larsen Wilkes, and a couple shots of menu items.
Bordeaux’s is the only steakhouse in the small town of Kyle and it’s the place to go for special occasions. Community Impact requested a shot of the owners, a wide shot of the restaurant and a few dishes. I set up a shot of the owners in the bar, but it didn’t show off the restaurant very much.
I moved them to the back of the dining room, and I stood on a chair looking back at the front door (pictured at top). I used a 24mm lens with an SB 910 speedlight in my left hand.
Then I moved quickly on to menu items. We had about five min. left, so I had to work with what I had. Normally I would move a table to a window and shoot the food using more natural light. In this case, though, I used the table closest to the window (about 15 feet away), and did the best I could using flash.
