Carolyn Radcliffe chooses a Halloween pumpkin at the First United Methodist Church San Marcos pumpkin patch. The church hosts the annual fundraiser Monday through Friday from noon to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays after services.
One of my favorite buildings in San Marcos is the old FUMC sanctuary. There’s a newer white building next to it with a courtyard in the middle, which is a perfect place for church events. It’s a charming location for a pumpkin patch with the green grass, white picket fence, surrounded by white walls and stained glass.
The FUMC pumpkin patch is an annual fundrasier for the church and I try to shoot it every year. I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon and it wasn’t very crowded, in fact, this lady was one of three people who came through to get a pumpkin. But the friendly volunteers and the nice scenery kept me busy for a while.
This lady didn’t stay long, in fact, she bought the second pumpkin she picked up, but where she stood made a perfect opportunity for a “sense of place” photo with the church in the back ground. Everyone in town recognizes that building, so viewers will relate to the photo.
Also, the pumpkin patch is a sign of the seasons changing. It’s finally fall!
