I took this photo at the first 2008 JV practice at San Marcos High School.
The varsity team was energetic and ready to play, even though it was 7 a.m. and nearly 100 degrees. The JV team, however, was a little sluggish. For some of them it was their first high school practice ever.
I got up early to go shoot before work, so the sun was fairly low in the sky. I was supposed to shoot the varsity team, but I already had a decent shot and the JV team was doing a much more visual drill, so I diverted for a few minutes.
I got down low, adjusted my camera to get a silhouette of the players, waited for the hand off and clicked the shutter. I got about 3 shots before I had to return to my regular assignment.
