Golf-bowling-darts

Not too long ago the Statesman sent me over to TopGolf, one of Austin’s newest hot spots.

I hadn’t ever heard of this place, so I had no idea what I was in for.  Basically, it’s a three-story driving range, but instead of just hitting balls, you and your group take turns trying to hit the balls in to targets.

You use golf balls and golf clubs, but the game and scoring are set up like bowling, and you aim for targets that look like dart boards in the grass.  Get it?

It’s hard to visualize unless you have pictures.  Lucky you!

There’s a huge social aspect of this place.  Most of the people who go there don’t even play golf.  TopGolf is the largest sports bar in Austin, and they also have pool tables and lounges and other things to do and places to hang out.

It looked like fun and I was tempted to try a drive while I was there.  The staff were super open and friendly and had no reservations about me taking photos.  All in all, it’s was a pretty fun assignment.
