Belinda Geesaman (right) tries to comfort her son Josiah, 5, as he sits in an exam room waiting for one of three immunization shots at CommuniCare Health Services on Wednesday. The clinic offered a free immunization fair in preparation for the fall school semester.
This was from a free immunization clinic I went to a few weeks ago.
I felt horrible going in to the room with the kids while they got shots. Most of them screamed and cried and I kept shooting.
This little guy was pretty brave and shook off the pain as soon as he walked out of the room. The doctors gave him a toothbrush and a balloon as he left.
He’s looking at the camera in this shot, which normally isn’t such a good thing for photojournalism, but I think it conveys his anxiety pretty well since his eye brows are raised and his lip is pouted. I think the mom is the main focus in this photo because she is so focused on trying to comfort him. She wanted him to smile, but he obviously wasn’t feeling up to it. I’m really glad she let me in to the exam room.
