Last Friday I was in Lago Vista for the Statesman as the 2A high school played Florence.
I don’t cover a lot of 2A games, and this was my first time to Lago Vista High School. A lot of times photographers begrudgingly go to these games, knowing that the stadium will be small, parking will be difficult, and the lighting will be awful. I had quite the opposite experience.
In fact, the parking was easy, the lighting was equal to most 4A schools I’ve been to, and well, the stadium was small, but the people were fantastic!
A man, who I later learned was the school board president and the stadium’s namesake, guided me to a parking spot extremely close to the field. When I got out of the car, I saw a quaint little stadium with devoted fans.
Everyone I talked to was more than helpful and excited that the Statesman was covering the game.
I cover 4A, 5A and college football games mostly, and the 2A playbook was clearly different. Hail Mary passes were common on both teams, with several 2-3 yard runs. It was definitely a varied pace.
Lago Vista won 59-14 in the end, but I had to leave at half time to find a place to edit and transmit.
Here are a few of my game photos.
It was an overall great experience for me. The only thing that went wrong was that I went to the next town over – Cedar Park – to a McDonald’s to borrow wifi, and accidentally left my laptop power cord at the table where I sat. Thank goodness they held on to it for me and I was able to retrieve it on Monday.
