Since my last few posts have been about portrait photography and landscapes, I thought I’d go back to photojournalism – what I normally do.
A few weeks ago I covered the Aquarena Center’s Earth Day celebration. It was my last assignment as a staff member at the San Marcos Daily Record. Sadly, I don’t think it was ever published. Oh well, so goes the newspaper business.
It was a nice day and Aquarena was crawling with things to do. Overall, it was a great festival. I’ll post the photos with captions below.
The photo at the top is of Catarina Suarez, 4, who was getting a butterfly painted on her face by Carina Pinales (left).
Landon Temple (above) of the Texas State Wildlife Society holds Harvey, an ornate box turtle, during Aquarena Center’s Earth Day celebration. Temple brought live reptiles and other wildlife for up close encounters.
Faith Shultz places a paper leaf on the Promise Tree at the Sustainable San Marcos booth. Participants were invited to write down one thing they promise to do to make the world a greener place, then add their contribution to the tree.
A young boy plays near the edge of Spring Lake during Aquarena Center’s Earth Day festival. The springs and the area around them have been continually inhabited for thousands of years.
Rev. Bruce Wilson pours water from Spring Lake in to a basin during the annual blessing of the springs ceremony. Native American tribes and clergymen team up to bless the springs, which have provided a home to it’s inhabitants for thousands of years.
