Leander v. Westwood

It’s Monday and that usually means I blog about the high school game I shot on Friday, but today I noticed that I overlooked a game I shot a few weeks back.  Since the photos for that game turned out better than the ones I shot on Friday, I thought I’d re-visit the Leander v. Westwood game.

It was a defensive game, meaning there weren’t a lot of big offensive plays.  Photographers generally don’t like shooting these games.  Newspapers like shots of the player carrying, throwing, catching, dropping and doing basically anything with the ball.  If the defense is dominating, there isn’t a lot of opportunity to shoot someone making a big play with the ball in hand.

During the first half, Leander and Westwood both scored, leaving a 7-7 tie at half time.  The tie stretched in to the fourth quarter and it looked like the low-scoring game might go in to overtime.  But, with about two minutes left in the game, Leander made it to the end zone.  Final score was 14-7.

Here’s some action:

The win meant Leander would move on to the district championship, and the team was really excited.  That meant a lot of celebration shots.  Here are some of those:
