Alright, as promised here are more shots from my trip to Salado.
Salado is an interesting place for a photographer. It’s a small town with a lot of nostalgia and some things are caught in time, like you stepped back a few decades. But some of those things look like they’ve been sitting in the same spot for years and have decayed, like the house at the top of the post.
Nan said she’s driven past this place many times and always wanted to photograph it. I can see why. It’s completely falling apart and the walls are bowed out like the bottom of a large boat. It was great for shooting.
And now for the real reason we met in Salado. Besides it being a nice place geographically for Nan and I to meet, Nan has a friend there who has an exceptional collection of well, junk. His home was a treasure trove of stuff. If you’ve thought of it, chances are he has at least one. We weren’t able to spend a lot of time there, but the shapes of some of the things he had struck me. Like the spiral of the piece of rusted metal above, sitting on a table on top of a couple of metal rings. And the contrast of circle hubcaps hung on the wall next to long stretches of metal below.
One last photo because I thought it came out nice. I’ve taken a similar shot to the one below several times at different places, but there was something about this place that makes me want to go back.
