The month of June rivals football season for me. June has some of my favorite things to shoot. The first days of summer, the Texas Water Safari, the Luling Watermelon Thump and then top it off with 4th of July weekend. If you can stand the heat, June is just an all-around photo feast.
This time I’m posting photos from the Luling Watermelon Thump. I try to get out there every year and sometimes I get to stay for a couple of days and sometimes it’s only an hour or two. Unfortunately, this year was the latter.
The Statesman sent me out to cover the watermelon eating contest on Saturday afternoon. Just like any eating contest, it’s messy and quick, so I try to pick out a winner (or at least someone who will make a good photo) before each round starts and just focus on them.
Here are some shots from the contest and some general ambiance so you can get a feel for how fun this Thump is!
I got to spend a lot more time out at the Thump last year and I have 2 blog posts about it: Things that Thump – Part 1 and Things that Thump – Part 2
