Over the weekend I was supposed to shoot the Texas Water Safari. It’s one of my favorite things to shoot all year, but this year it was delayed due to flooding in the Guadalupe River basin. To top it off, another assignment I had Saturday night was also delayed (for different reasons). So I found myself without anything to shoot on a Saturday, which is very rare, especially this time of year.
Instead of spending Friday evening at Aquarena Springs shooting kayakers as they prepared their boats, my husband and I went over to the ROT Rally motorcycle parade in Austin. It was my first time to see it. It was incredible. To have that many of anything in one place is quit the sight.
One thing I noticed, though, as I was looking through my photos over the weekend was that it seemed like I was shooting pairs. Pairs of people. Most of the bikes had 2 people on them and even the photographers covering the event came in pairs, like the two guys at the top of the page. Here are some other pairs I found:
One more thing I noticed is the vast range of people who came out to enjoy the parade. Everyone from small children to big, harry bikers to this lady, who knew almost every biker who passed by:
It was an experience. I wish I could’ve stayed longer to get some closer shots of the characters who came through for the rally, but we had a previous engagement. Maybe next time.
