A few years ago I started a tradition at the Daily Record to make a stop motion Easter video using Marshmallow Peeps. The goal was simply silliness and enjoyment and to see what I could get approved on my expense report.
It was a big hit and every year people ask me if I’m going to do it again. Well, here is this year’s Easter Peep video:
I’ve done “Peeps Tubing,” “How Many Peeps Fit in to a VW Bug,” “A Peep Newspaper Staff” and this year, “Angry Peeps!” This year’s video is based on the mega-hit game app Angry Birds.
It’s one of my favorite apps…well, actually my all-time favorite. I’ve spent countless hours sling-shotting colorful birds at green pigs. If you haven’t tried it, you should!
So how do I make these awesome Peep videos? Well I’m glad you asked.
I set up a white sheet on a table as sort of a mini back drop and gather props and supplies. Then I use my still camera to shoot the Peeps one frame at a time, moving them slightly between frames. Then I put the images together in sequence and play them at about 3 frames per second.
I used to use iMovie on my Mac computer at the Daily Record, but now I use Adobe Premiere on my PC at home. I also used Adobe After Effects to apply text and color correction.
The music is done by my husband, Nick. He used Pro Tools to create a melody very reminiscent of the Angry Birds theme song. Here his is working his magic:
The whole thing took a couple hours. The Peep shows are fun projects that I like to do quickly. If I had unlimited time, I would color correct, sharpen and process every photo individually and add more scenes with a better plot. But these projects are just for fun!
I hope you enjoy this year’s Peep Show! Happy Easter!!!
